What's New?

  • Some words from great minds about books...

The covers of this book are too far apart.
        Ambrose Bierce

Read over your compositions, and where ever you meet with a passage which you think is particularly fine, strike it out.

        Boswell: Life of Johnson

Many books require no thought from those who read them, and for a very simple reason; they made no such demand upon those who wrote them.
        Charles Caleb Colton

This is not a novel to be tossed aside lightly. It should be thrown with great force.
        Dorothy Parker

A good novel tells us the truth about its hero; but a bad novel tells us the truth about its author.
        G. K. Chesterton

From the moment I picked up your book until I laid it down, I was convulsed with laughter. Some day I intend reading it.
        Groucho Marx

  • Harper Collins no longer pays advances to authors.

As reported in the Wall Street Journal, marking a radical departure from traditional book-publishing practices, HarperCollins Publishers says it will launch a new book imprint that won't accept returns from retailers and will pay little or no advances to authors.

This further erodes the differences between traditional publishing and small, indie presses like Elderberry. The distinctions are blurring so fast the mind boggles. Inquiring minds want to know:  Will HarperCollins now be branded a vanity press?

  • Our books now printed instantly at bookstores across the nation

The Espresso Book Machine now makes it possible for a reader to walk into a bookstore or library and buy an Elderberry Press book and have it printed and bound while they browse or enjoy a cup of coffee. • Elderberry author's new book picked up by publisher.

  • Elderberry authors now blogging on amazon

Our cutting edge authors are now offering their opinions, response to reviews and news about their books and areas of expertise on their amazon book pages.
  • A new way to target small press book buyers

10,000 color brochures featuring each new book will now be inserted into every book order going out from Book Clearing House, our 800 number order line. This targets exactly the readers who buy books from small presses like ours, readers who don't hesitate to buy books by new authors---lean mean marketing at its best.

  • Top Periodicals charge $5000 for book review

Today I was speaking with an ad exec from one of the best known papers out of Washington DC and he assured me that, excepting ex-presidents and rock stars, a book review in any large magazine or newspaper is what he called a "billable event," meaning that unless a check for $5000 or more accompanies the book review request, no review will appear. To those of us in the business this is no surprise, but to new writers, the ugly realities of the publishing business can be discouraging.
  • Army Magazine raves about Elderberry book

The author of Gasoline To Patton, General Albin Irzyk, has received high praise for his military history from The Department of the Army's official magazine: Army. Kudos go out to the general, whose book describes how incompetence and politics delayed the end of WWII and cost tens of thousands of lives.
  • Poles Apart featured at museum

Bess Balchen's book about the life of her famous husband and Admiral Byrd is setting the historical record straight at Owls Head Museum in Maine.
  • Mathematics Teacher Magazine reviews book

Prestigious Mathematics Teacher has reviewed Barr McCutcheon's book of math puzzles, Urns, Dice and Polyominoes.
  • Historic Aviation features Elderberry Book

  • Rolls Royce Club reviews Mile Varey book—now in Kindle edition!

The Flying Lady, the periodical of the Rolls-Royce Owners' Club (USA) and The International Club for Bentley and Rolls-Royce owners, has lavished high praise on Varey's automobile tour guide.
