What may you expect during the publishing process?
(We understand that, for many new writers, this is a new experience. For this reason we offer this timeline for your elucidation.)
1. You read our faq page and explore our site. This should answer many questions and,
if I've done my job well, might even be relatively painless. Then, if you choose to, you send me your MS with a cover letter with your contact information.
2. I read your MS. If your writing does not coincide with our vision of publishing, I will
return your MS to you in your sase with the reason why. If I think your
book meets our requirements, I will contact you personally with my decision. Please realize that, unlike many publishers, we are selective in what we publish.
3. After we have spoken, if you care to see an agreement, at this point I email you a draft publishing agreement to look over carefully. It is
also advisable to run it past your attorney or legal advisor. At that point, any
questions you have I will answer.
4. You may contact a number of our authors to see how they feel about their
experience with us. We furnish potential authors with a list for their convenience.
5. I will now send you a book in hard or softcover to examine to see the quality of
our work. It's always a good idea to look at the quality of the book a publisher puts out.
6. You might wish to secure bids from several of our competitors, comparing costs,
quality, services and the amount of individual attention you can expect to receive from us and from them. We are confident we compare favorably and would like you to see for yourself.
7. Then, if you wish to proceed, I shall mail to you by priority mail, two signed final
publishing agreements. You shall return one with your first installment and we
shall begin work on your book. In this way we seek to insure that you are fully informed before you agree to publish.
8. Once we come to an agreement, the publishing process begins. You submit your file to us and within a few days we send you your first paper proof. A proof is what you see when you hold a book open on your lap. You return this to us with any corrections or changes and when we have made all changes the process is repeated. This corrected, we print a book proof, which is precisely the book which we will be printing and selling worldwide. We have found that sometimes an error will hide unseen until this stage, when it will jump out at the author. This is why we go to such lengths to catch them.
When you approve your book we begin promoting your work. Publishing proceeds at your discretion, at your convenience, and at your pace. And yet when an author is working against the clock we can have a book in hand in 60 days easily. (Yet another advantage we offer.)
And lastly, expect that if you ever have a question or concern regarding your book, you may always email or just pick up the phone and speak to me directly, not to a phone system or a salesperson or sales rep... Your editor is always accessable to you... Before, during and after your book is published.
That is what separates us from the rest of the publishing world.
